New Year Brings New Changes in Cafeteria

New healthy options in the cafeteria

If your New Year’s resolutions included eating a healthy diet, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans resolve every January to get fit and eat right, only to throw in the towel by the end of January.

Evergreen Foods is making changes in the cafeteria to help make healthy eating more convenient for students and staff.

A weekly heart healthy menu option was introduced this term. Entrée items such as broiled salmon and grilled chicken breast will be on the menu each week in place of the basket special.

Gluten-free breads are available, as well as gluten-free choices on some entrées and bakery goods.

New items are offered in the salad bar, including balsamic vinegar and olive oil and fat free ranch dressing choices. As always, a bowl of soup can be added to a salad bar for $1.50.

Expanded beverage choices include soy milk, coconut water and a new coffee blend. Sugar in the raw is now available as a sweetener. The cafeteria is also making an effort to use ingredients with reduced amounts of high fructose corn syrup when feasible.
